Playa Almirante is located on the shore of the Sunset Paradise of Añasco. Añasco sits just to the south of Rincon, and it’s hard to know where one town ends and the other begins.
Añasco is called the city “where the gods died and men were born” and it holds an important place in Puerto Rican history as it was here that the Spanish Conquistadores were proven to be mortals when some 500 years ago Taino Indians drowned a Spanish Conquistador named Diego Salcedo in the Añasco river to see if the Spaniards were, in fact, gods. With proof in hand, this led to the Taino rebellion of 1511.
Today Añasco is known for its “hojaldre cake” (filled with brandy and spices), the “chipe” clam and the second largest plaza on the Island.
Playa Almirante, just 15 minutes from the financial and business district of Mayagüez, has easy access to the Rafael Hernández International Airport in Aguadilla, and the Eugenio María de Hostos Airport in Mayagüez. Shopping Malls, movie theatres, restaurants, and other attractions are minutes away.
BTW: US citizens do not require a passport or visa!
